When you think of the word “Pool” what is the first word that comes to mind? We bet it wasn’t “Rules.” Pool Rules are very easy to overlook when planning a family trip. However, breaking these rules can potentially cause a bad experience if broken.
This blog will go over the most common pool rules broken unknowingly and why they matter.
Common Pool Rules
The very 1st rule that is engraved in your mind is NO RUNNING!. This rule is posted everywhere around the deck. You will most likely hear a lifeguard blast their whistle because of this. Pool deck materials range from concrete to ceramic tile that can get slippery and cause serious injuries from a single drop of water.
No Swimming When A Lifeguard Is Not On Duty. If you do not see a lifeguard at the pool or in the area where you want to swim, make sure to ask if there is one available. The last thing you want is for an emergency to happen to your child and there is no one certified there to help. Some resorts or hotel pools may post a sign that says no lifeguard on duty, which means enter at your own risk.
No Diving. Each pool is made differently. However, one thing remains the same, it is not safe to dive headfirst into a pool that has a depth lower than 5 1/2 ft. Breaking this rule can result in broken or sprained body parts and/or a concussion. These injuries are very serious on land, but can turn into a life or death situation in the water.
No Consumption Of Food Or Glass Containers Allowed In The Pool Area. This rule has two parts that you must pay attention to. The first is no consumption of food in the pool area. Yes, it is a good idea to bring snacks to the pool, but let’s paint a picture of what happens on the deck. You and your children are eating with a 99% chance of them dropping crumbs that you may or may not know about mixed with water. This creates a mushy substance that no one really wants to deal with that can be tracked along the deck and possibly the pool.
Then there is no glass containers allowed in the pool area. This is pretty self-explanatory. Accidents happen all the time, but in this case if a glass container breaks on the pool deck clean up has to happen immediately. Clear glass on a wet pool deck screams DANGER! With kids playing around with bare feet, jumping in and out of the pool, the glass could cut one of them or worse fall into the pool.
You Must Shower Before Entering The Pool. Have you ever seen a cloudy pool? If you answered yes to this question then you have seen, first hand, the most common effect of not showering. Showering allows you to remove all dirt, sweat, and products from your body that would be released into the pool otherwise. Help keep the pool clean by showering.
We hope this helps you to plan accordingly when heading to the pool. It was a great time when everyone is safe and follows the rules.
